Fc Barcelona head coach Quique Setien, despite having a tight calendar and schedule and even a short squad, still fails to make as many rotation as he’s supposed to. Even though teams can now make five substitutions since the restart of the league, he barely even makes two per match.
So had an overview of the whole situations going on in the club and we thought Quique Setien has conflict of interests with the following players- as they don’t get the playing time they deserve;
Tha Brazilian lad has only managed 179 minutes across five matches, missing just the 2 – 2 draw against Atletico de Madrid.
since after the quarantine, the 23 year old has played against
Mallorca; where he came in as a sub and had just 19 minutes.
Leganes; As a starter and played 73 minutes
Sevilla; As a sub and played 27 minutes
Athletic Bilbao; As a starter and played for 56 minutes
Celta de vigo; Came in and played just 4 minutes
And didn’t feature at all in the most recent match against Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona fans around the world have been wondering why the number 8 who is supposed to be a heir to either Xavi or Iniesta doesn’t even have a chance to prove himself, but the reasons could be because partly because of his injuries, as he missed 12 matches while on injury and partly because of what Quique Setien is asking him to do.
The coach revealed at a pre-match interview ahead of the Celta vigo match that the player isn’t quite there yet. The coach said he had asked Arthur to tweak his game so that he provides what is expected of him.
“Arthur has been used to being told to make sure of holding the ball. Now we come in and say you should play one or two touches. He has found it a challenge, but he is on a good path. It will make him a better player.” Said the Spanish Tactician.
Another reason might be because the Brazilian will say goodbye to the club in August, and Riqui Puig seem not to be slacking at all. It makes little sense to see a talent like Puig on the bench and Arthur on the pitch since the former have been in great form after quarantine.
The teen, who was a revelation under the Ernesto Valverde Era now has little or no minutes to play under Quique Setien. In total, the youngster have managed 153 minutes in four matches and even scored the opener against Leganes.
Since after quarantine the player have played against;
Leganes, where he got 54 minutes
Athletic Bilbao as a sub and played just 25 minutes
started against Celta Vigo and was subbed off after 69 minutes
and had just 5 minutes against Athletico Madrid.
Ansu had to watch Mallorca and Sevilla matches from the bench even though it looked like he was needed in the Sevilla game.
The Spanish teenager hasn’t been playing that much recently because Setien wants to protect him . The coach revealed after the Leganes match that the youngster had been struggling with pains for a while and therefore, he hadn’t used him in the previous match.
“It’s true he still lacks some things, but he needs the consistency that he still doesn’t have due to the problems that prevented him from training on several days.
“But he did really well when he was on. I didn’t want to put him at risk anymore after the recent problems. He already had some pain at half time and we wanted to take care of him.”
The French man was one of our undisputed starters this season playing both on the wing and as a Centre-forward. Of course Griezmann hasn’t been on his best shape since league resumption but Luis Suarez and Martin Braithwaithe aren’t any better too.
The 28 year old has played a total of 233 minutes but started only in three out of six matches the team has played since after quarantine.
He started against Mallorca and played 57 minutes
played 90 minutes against Leganes, came in as a sub against Sevilla and played for 11 minutes, started against Bilbao and played for 65 minutes, played for 9 minutes in the match against Celta vigo after coming in as a sub, then ridiculously subbed in just to play 1 minute against Athletico Madrid.
Setien has been asked several times what the reason behind Griezmann’s lack of game time could be and he only said they were technical decisions.
“Griezmann benched? I don’t care if signings are expensive or cheap,” the boss told Movistar after the Celta game.
“Last week we opted for one line-up, this one we opted for another one. Last week you asked me why I didn’t play Ansu Fati or Riqui Puig. These are the decisions I make.”
